I hadn't been to Gillies in over a decade and was worried that I'd oversold it to my wife. I remember it fondly, but wasn't mentally prepared for how good it was. I ordered the frittata and my wife ordered buckwheat pancakes with the maroon juice. We had such a good experience that we returned the following day (the only two mornings we were in town were devoted to Gillies). The second morning, we arrived to a welcoming face (Aria - our server both days, absolutely fantastic, and made us feel very comfortable both days!). I got the eggs Benedict and my wife got the buckwheat pancakes again. We also both got sides of the Gillies potatoes and juices. Best choice of the weekend. My wife had some negative impressions of Blacksburg from people that she knew that attended tech, but midway through our second meal, she was suggesting that we move to Blacksburg. I'm thrilled to know that over a decade after my last visit, Gillies is still making food that seems relatively simple in ways that just doesn't make sense... Potatoes shouldn't be that good. The eggs Benedict were criminally good, and the buckwheat pancakes felt like some sort of dark magic. 100% recommend if you're in the Blacksburg/Christiansburg/Radford area!

Holy Cow!!! I wanted to find a cute breakfast joint after an overnight in Blacksburg.... Success! This placed exceeded my expectations for flavor and character and charm. Try the challah French toast with ice cream for brunch (entitled "Challa 'atcha Boy"). You'll be racing to get more in your mouth. 10/10 coming back again and again!
