Brandon was awesome. The store is exceptionally well stocked for the serious hiker. Amazing stock. I wanted a specific hiking pack and actually was pleasantly surprised it was in stock. Also, Brandon had great tips and knowledge of places and even times for local hikes. He was so generous and friendly. I will be back often!!! 10 out of 10!!

Tl;dr - FRANCES made my holiday season. I wish every shopping experience was as amazing as this one. I love walkabout. I grew up in Blacksburg and remember when first and main was built, and was so excited to shop there. I got my first hiking boots and rain pants from there, and it’s always been held in the upmost regard as a business that really builds the Blacksburg community. Along with runabout, east coasters, the Greenhouse, etc. I have never had a bad experience shopping there, and the gear and presents I buy are always top tier. Frances took that up a notch for me somehow. It was like shopping a family friend (specifically my sister’s best friend). She helped me find gifts for my wife and baby, had great opinions on jackets, and really took the time to make sure I was getting the sleeping pad I needed to do some cowboy/girl camping this spring. Walkabout is family owned and community focused. They’re the first outdoor shop I think of because the staff, merchandise, and quality to cost are really unbeatable. I can’t think of a more important quality than community focused when you’re talking about hiking and camping and being outdoors together.

Irina and Brandon were both very friendly and helpful. We drove to the Blacksburg store after visiting the Roanoke store because the staff told us the sandals I was looking for were available; however, that was not the case. Although the staff in Roanoke were friendly we didn’t think they knew the products. So glad we drove all the way to Blacksburg because Irina knew her stuff and gave me more information about the sandals I had tried on in Roanoke. After showing me how to adjust the heal straps to get the correct fit, I was able to chose the correct size sandal. Unfortunately the Roanoke staff didn’t show me that and I would have chosen the wrong size to buy. Brandon was very sweet and helpful during our checkout. Great job Blacksburg team!!

My daughter needed a pair of hiking boots for a class she was taking this summer and she needed time to break them in so we came to the Blacksburg Walkabout Outfitter store to see what they had. Frances went out of her way to help my daughter find the right pair of boots that fit. She was very patient and kind and even got a new pair of hiking socks off the rack so my daughter could try boots on with the right size sock! I needed a new helmet for work and Brandon was very helpful and let me know they could order any Petzl product I needed and took the time to write out which climbing brands they sold. I really enjoyed shopping there and will absolutely be back.
