GREAT bus service with great operators who are safe and keep to their route schedules. Clean and well-maintained buses. BT expanded their routes and added new ones to better serve Blacksburg and Virginia Tech. The fleet of buses is (I think) 80% fully electric. Soon to be 100%.
Aug 14, 2025 · Google ReviewThe bus system is mostly reliable. The app can be buggy but the live map is accurate for the most part. Hopefully it can get a makeover soon. Bus punctuality can be affected by traffic conditions, so not much they can do besides maybe accounting for traffic patterns in the stop schedule. The buses themselves are pretty comfortable and clean. The drivers for the most part are friendly. Overall I would say it’s a solid transportation choice for students and local residents alike.
Feb 25, 2025 · Google ReviewBlacksburg Transit is not bad. It’s free, it runs frequently on weekdays at peak hours, it’s faster than driving and parking at Duck Pond, and it’s clean. And that’s about all the good things. It’s not very punctual, the weekend frequencies are a joke so you still need to own a car, and the busses are overcrowded to oblivion. If VT and the City of Blacksburg is really serious about providing better multi-modal transport, they need to fund BT better. Extremely busy and well-used routes (namely, TOM, HWA, and HWB) can easily support 10 min or less frequencies instead of the present 15 min on-peak to reduce crowding and improve reliability. Weekend frequencies also need to be at least 30 mins. I’m sure there’s enough demand that people will use it. And to further improve reliability, make certain congested roads (Stanger St.) bus-only on campus M-F 9-5pm. Can’t tell you how many times the bus takes 10 minutes to travel like one mile around campus because there are students who are dropping off ONE PERSON, blocking the whole road with a bus carrying 120 people.
