Coal Mining Heritage Park and Loop Trail
The Merrimac mining community once resided on this 28-acre tract east of Price Mountain, which hosted a mining tipple, hotel, general store, and housing for the miners. Today visitors can stroll, run, or bike along a 1.5-mile loop trail celebrating the heritage of coal mining in Southwest Virginia.

LAwesome little area by the Huckleberry Trail. There are different preserved artifacts and locations with plaques that give a little tidbit of history behind them. There are also 2 side trails on either side of Huckleberry Trail that form a loop, containing additional little exhibits.

timliu75 timThe trail is open all the year round from sunrise to sunset, though it is shown as closed on Google Maps. 100% exposure to nature while learn some history about a local, closed mining site. Fresh air. Great for both walk and run. Multiple trails available. Bathrooms onsite.

Chip KempstonNeat trail. Part of a much longer one, but the coal mining loop is pretty short and easy and interesting. Bring bug spray. There are few old mining items to look at along the trail as well as a section of what I assume was canal for transport. It's too bad they fill the mine entances in. It would be cool to at least look inside.
